Welcome to completeanimation.com

The main purpose of this site is to enhance my book, "The Complete Animation Course", which is published by Barron's in North America and Thames and Hudson in the UK and is available now through amazon.com or amazon.co.uk or through your local bookseller.

The book itself is an introduction to all aspects of animation from storytelling through to simple cut out animation to cel and onto 3D stop motion and CGI. It is aimed at novices and teenagers, with lots of inspirational pictures from international animators. Its main focus is on digital techniques, using affordable hardware and software.

One of the problems with this type of book is that it can date very quickly, given the current speed of technological advances, and this is where this site comes in. I hope to keep you up to date on latest software and hardware releases, again aimed at what most everyone can afford. It will also go into more detail on the subjects covered in the book and hopefully get experts in the field to share their knowledge and expertise.

Most importantly though, we will be able to show you animations as the were intended to be seen - moving. And also a place for new animators to show their work, especially those motivated and inspired by the book. Check out some of the latest additions to the showcase.

This site is a labour of love. It is self-funded and at the moment has no financial affiliations with any publisher or technology company. Please help support this site buy doing your online shopping through the ads.

Shameless plug time. My latest book is due out any day now. It is published by Barnes and Noble in North America and can be purchased through the link on the right. In the UK it is published by A&C Black and can be bought through amazon.co.uk. It is not strictly about animation but developing characters using archetypes - all very high brow - with some excellent iilustrations for inspiration.

In the meantime check out what is available, sign up to the Forum, or have at look at the Showcase.
